My name is Shannon Calvert. I am an end-of-life navigator/death doula, educator and companion. I provide support and companionship to individuals and their families as they navigate the practical, social and spiritual aspects of dying and grief. Sometimes this is anticipated well in the future or sometimes very soon. I help navigate the many tasks and questions that people may encounter. These may be organizational, practical, physical, social, and spiritual. At different times the work may require planning, consultation, investigation, advocacy, reflection, ritual, companioning, and vigiling. The work almost always requires deep listening, presence, compassion and attention to detail.  I strongly believe in each person’s right to exercise autonomous decision making. I see my role as supporting the client to discern, and then work towards, their priorities and wishes.

I am a graduate of the University of  Vermont's End of Life Doula Professional Certification, and a graduate of The Institute of Traditional Medicine’s Contemplative End of Life Care and Palliative Massage programs. I have a BA in Sociology and Social Justice from King's College Western University. I also have completed many other trainings and certifications (see below).

I have extensive experience in community development, working with diverse populations to support individuals and groups to develop skills and knowledge in order to improve their own health and to build healthy communities that are based on justice, equality and mutual respect.

Being involved in my community is very important to me. I am a board member of The Funeral Advisory and Memorial Society of Southern and Eastern Ontario, a member of the Grief Loss Resources Committee of London, a Death Café facilitator, a workshop facilitator, and a hospice volunteer. I also curate an active Facebook site. I provide SoulCollage® facilitation as I see the benefits of the expressive arts when delving into the deep waters of life and death. I am a student of Christianity and Buddhism, an avid reader, seeker and am continually expanding my knowledge and skills. I live in London, Ontario with my husband and across the street from two of the joys of my life, my young grandsons!

I look forward to working with you.
